The conference, held at the Bilderberg Garden hotel in Amsterdam, under the auspices of a European Commission supported "social dialogue" project for elite athletes in Europe was well attended by union representatives from all over Europe. The program included presentations from the World Anti Doping Agency and the Dutch Anti Doping Authority as well as a presentation on Social Dialogue from the European Commission.

At the end of the conference a new provisional board for the European Elite Athletes Association was elected and a statement of solidarity was passed in support of the French Cyclists. A position paper on doping was also discussed as well as common issues for social dialogue. Image rights, local player rules and minimum standards for athlete labor contracts in Europe were selected as priority issues for research and presentation at the next conference in September.
