New Power for UBE' works thanks to the help and the experience of WalterPalmer Walter Palmer, director of the German Players Association, “sports-union”, made a lightning, one day visit to the GIBA offices in Bologna to prepare with Peppe Cassi and Annemarie Litt for an important UBE meeting in Belgrade during the European championships in September. On the agenda yesterday was a revising of the UBE charter, discussions of a plan to visit Euroleague teams in the fall and a resumption of cooperation with FIBA, and a telephone conference with Jesus Bueno (General Secretary of the ABP). In the wake of the latest decision by the Euroleague for an open market and the development of a one sided “Euroleague standard players contract”, GIBA and “sports-union” will work with the other UBE members to develop a more proactive strategy to protect the rights of players at the European level. Before becoming director of “sports-union”, Palmer, an American, played professionally from 1990 until 2003, including for the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks of the NBA and half of the 94/95 season for Steffanel Milano. In 1996, Palmer moved to Germany and, since that time, has resided in Bamberg with his wife and 3 children. Another Palmer will be coming soon to Italy. Palmers' brother, Crawford, who won the silver medal in Sydney with the French National team, will play with his team Strasbourg in the Euroleague next season against Benetton Treviso and Climamio Bologna.” |
